Jim's chair yoga class is an invigorating exercise period with a lot more to offer than just exercise. Participants will enjoy a session of joyful peace, with all of their life issues and challenges out of their minds and find a period of clarity to connect with their bodies, breath and mind. Special emphasis on monitoring and controlling breath is provided, and reminded thoughhout the class. Participants are informed when to inhale and exhale according to the flow as they move in and out of the poses.
Jim's classes start with a short quiet mindful period of focus and release, followed by long stretches, bends and twists to prepare the body, and then a flowing sequence of chair-modified poses, which follow the shapes and structure of mat yoga while in a chair. About 50% to 75% of the class is done seated, and 25% to 50% done standing while using the chair for support. Some gentle easy chair-assisted balance poses, a short core sequence and finally a seated meditative rest period (savasana) at the end of class.
