Jim's Yoga School for Beginners is designed primarily for those who have never tried yoga, and may feel inhibited or unwilling to just jump into a yoga class. We also have folks who have been doing yoga but just wish to revisit the fundamentals. For the facility, Yoga School for Beginners is a great way to increase attendance to all the yoga classes offerred by turning non-practicing members into repeat attending yogis. For each pose Jim explains how to get in and out of the pose, what muscles and parts of the body it benefits, then demonstrates the pose and goes person to person, refining each into their best version of the asana. Participants are provided handouts with explanations and pictures of each pose that they can use to practice at home between classes. Each class adds to the ancient Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) sequence.
Jim's proven approach is to offer the program as a five-class series, each class providing a deep-dive into each of the most popular and most-often practiced poses, along with specific short lecture periods:
Class One:
History of yoga, how yoga is beneficial to physical and mental health, a section on all the various props (equipment) used in yoga classes, and deep-dives in the most basic staging and transitional poses, folds, and class structure.
Class Two:
Deep dives into all the poses done on our feet, such as the warrior series, triangle, pyramid, chair and more.
Class Three:
All balance poses are presented and refined, including one-legged tadasana, tree, warrior three, mini dancer, king dancer, and more.
Class Four:
All bending and twisting poses, including thread the needle, Janu Sirsasana (head to knee), supine twists, seated twists, gate, cobra, camel, and more.
Class Five:
All the poses covered in classes one to four are combined into a full beginner yoga class, showing how the poses are linked and flowed together into a full class. Core sequences are also introduced in class five.
